Post New START : Rising U.S – Russia Nuclear Escalation Risk

The New START treaty between the U.S. and Russia has effectively lapsed, removing binding limits on strategic nuclear warheads and delivery systems for both sides and opening the way to an unconstrained nuclear arms race.

The collapse of this framework eliminates the last formal constraint on large-scale expansion of U.S & Russian strategic arsenals. This shift signals to Moscow that Washington is walking away from prior stability arrangements, which Russian leadership is likely to read as preparation for a possible U.S nuclear buildup.
